A Home for Sustainability

Every choice consumers make has an impact on our planet. As the global population grows, it’s increasingly important for brands to empower consumers to make sustainable choices.

From washers and dryers optimized to maximize energy savings to modular refrigerators that reduce waste through extended lifespans, Samsung continues to deliver innovative products for our homes that make it easier for consumers to live sustainably.

A Sea Change for Innovation

Every year, 14 million tons of plastic ends up in the world’s oceans. Straws. Bottles. Food wrappers. Fishing nets. In all its forms, plastic makes up 80% of marine debris, threatening countless species, accelerating climate change and impacting human health.

Students in Malaysia have taken this challenge to heart. With support from Samsung, they developed a bioplastic that has the potential to replace single-use plastics that account for a large share of marine debris. Samsung is also helping to address this challenge. The technology giant recently unveiled new Galaxy smartphones and tablets with select components that use a polyamide resin constructed from a minimum of 20% recycled fishing nets.

Every Drop Counts

Semiconductors touch nearly every aspect of our lives. Our smartphones. Our transportation systems. Our healthcare devices. Our power networks. And much more. So integral have they become to our lives it’s hard to imagine a future without them. Thus, it’s necessary to produce semiconductors in the most sustainable way possible.

Manufacturing semiconductors requires large volumes of ultra-pure water. A typical manufacturing facility uses up to four million gallons per day. Conscious of increasing in global water demand and the need to conserve, Samsung reconsidered the production process to better manage water use. And it did so in a way that benefits the environment.
